Lorena Becerra (1974) is an Argentinian visual artist born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied a degree in Teaching of Visual Arts at the Escuela Municipal de Artes Visuales Lomas de Zamora and a degree in Advertising at the Universidad del Salvador. In addition, she attended costume making and set design workshops at the Teatro Colón. Her work has participated in many collective exhibitions, has been selected and awarded in many art salons in his country. She is part of two art collectives: Dibujantes del Sur and Hacedoras. The first one, a creative group that revolves around the exchange of experiences and feelings from their sociocultural context, Argentina. The second one, a group of 4 professionals who have in common, among other things, being women, mothers and, above all, visual artists with a long career and dedication to artistic work.

In Arte Original we present a selection of drawings from the Serie Náufragos. In this series, the artist, from an exceptional display of drawing technique, develops a coherent discourse about the passage of time, survival, and wisdom. The characters portrayed in this set of artworks -as their facial features and the elements that surround them suggest- “are the synthesis of what remains and what disappears, of what the waves bring and take away. They are snapshots in the midst of becoming”.

Becerra describes her work with the accuracy and precision that her extensive pedagogical, theoretical, and practical training has given her: “The human figure is always present in my compositions. They are characters that appear alone with a high degree of naturalism and that contain their own poetics in their attitudes. The background is a non-place, a void that can be any space. Through them I try to represent the emotions that make us essentially human.”
