Karen Pazán (1975) is an Ecuadorian visual artist, with Colombian nationality and based in Chile more than twenty years ago. Bachelor of Art from the Universidad de Chile, diploma in Project Design for Culture at the Universidad Católica de La Santísima Concepción.

With a lot of experience in the world of art, Karen has managed to develop one of the most forceful and organic discourses around themes linked to the intersections between cultures, displacements, and migrations throughout history, focusing on the relationship given between European and Latin American culture. Her work nourishes of different media, including photography, collage, object art and sculpture.

The “Hábito de memoria” series is part of the collection of the Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) and the Museo de Arte de las Américas, as well as private collections in Chile and the United States. The photographic series through various techniques including analog and digital painting shows us, in an elegant and forceful result, indigenous people from different parts of Latin America wearing high culture costumes taken from the history of European fashion. Observing the work, it is possible to imagine the artist in the task of putting on a suit designed for the European elite on an indigenous body that appreciates nudity. That crossing of times, that cultural shock, the effort until it fits opens the encounter and the question about what Latin American is.
