What is the meaning of painting for me? Could a photographer be a painter as well?

The key is the process, the amazement and fear of the blank canvas when starting a creation versus the cold and instantaneous click of the camera. In other words, the “contingency” of the artistic creative act is what’s important. The quantity of risks that you have to assume whilst the somewhat static mentality involved in the conventional photographical shot is another to see it.

The challenge is simple and yet difficult, to go beyond the anecdotal and the technical reproduction of the physical appearance, i.e. to elude the pure reproducibility of a pure event (Roland Barthes)”.

Ricardo Báez Duarte

With extensive education in visual artist, mathematics, music and philosophy, Ricardo Báez Duarte (Venezuela, 1950), makes an artistic proposal in which he puts into discussion the traditional limits between painting and photography.

He started as a painter but since the 1990s and through his profession as a teacher and mathematician, he specialized in using photoshop programs. With the mastery of this application he advises the photographer Lydia Fisher, from whose relationship, according to the artist, he received a definitive influence on his photographic artwork.

Some of the artworks are in our Washington, DC headquarter, hence will be delivered approximately 10 business days from the shipment date. Others are with the artists. Depending on where the artist resides, it might take up to 6-8 weeks for it to arrive at your home. This is because some countries require processing time for artworks to be exported. We will make sure all logistics are seamless and keep you informed throughout the process.

We hope you enjoy your newly acquired art fully! In case you find that it doesn’t work for you, you have 10 business days from receiving the painting to return. Refunds will be issued as long as the art piece arrives to us in its original condition.
