Born in Venezuela in 1972, he is part of the group of Venezuelan artists with a wide presence in the national artistic circuit since the eighties, with extensive participation in exhibitions, salons and biennials. In 1986 he began his training at the Taller Libre de Arte del Ateneo de Ciudad Bolívar. Then in 1989 he moved to Caracas where he studied at the Escuela de Artes Visuales Cristóbal Rojas.
The work of Yobel Parra is dreamlike, playful and festive. As part of his compositional resources, the presence of figures of horses, giraffes, elephants, umbrellas, scaffolding, doors, trees, houses, etc., arranged without a coherent reading or realistic sense, is recurrent. The figures appear suspended, floating, in a dynamic rhythm and unusual aerial planes to create magical scenes.
He has been associated with a type of child representation due to the delicate and outlined forms, the application of primary colors that become pastel tones through transparencies and harmonic compositions. In fact, for the artist, the content of his work comes from his memories, whose images appear fragmented and blurred; as well as the symbolic world of children where there are no proportions or perspectives.
The backgrounds on which the composition is built are a rictus of various tendencies, from landscapes, completely surrealist wall structures, abstractionisms, among many other expressive ways. His stylistic identity lies in recreating scenarios with rich fantastic content and maintaining the same characters, in the difficult task of creating a narrative, which, as in Las mil y una noches, always surprises us and is not exhausted in its content.
