Víctor Cordero (1961), is a Cuban artist, graduated in drawing and sculpture at the Academia de Artes Plásticas San Alejandro, and member of the Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba. Although he has ventured into caricatures, comics, posters, pottery and installation, painting is his favorite medium of expression, with the female figure as his leitmotif, the recurring image in all his compositions, but without falling into monotony.

We are aware that European and North American aesthetics have transcended and permeated the imagination of Latin American artists, who, by making art inspired by some foreign trend, imprint their own stamp on it, make their own versions, considering their cultural context as Latin American individual and social being. In the case of Cordero, we note that in his visual discourse he brings together and dialogues, in his own way, various artistic trends or styles, such as post-impressionism, expressionism and cubism; Let’s say that Cézanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, Grosz, Kirchner, Picasso and Modigliani come together in his work, all under the particular expressionist atmosphere of Cordero.

The color stain -fragmented, pronounced, contrasted, gestural and resolved into geometric forms at the same time- is the dominant pictorial ingredient in Cordero’s work; it is the one that structures everything, space, figures, texture, lights and shadows. The elongated female figures, generally in the foreground, and the few male characters that in some cases appear in his paintings, are characterized by their acute inexpressiveness and coldness; everyone seems to be abstracted, immersed in their inner world.
