She is a young Venezuelan artist (Lara, 1982). At an early age she dabbled in art through the Artistic Appreciation Workshop which was founded in Barquisimeto in 1992 by Isabel Delgado de Rodríguez. Canelón comments from this experience, “from that moment this love for art and history was born in me, right there, with frenzy, I began to value different artistic expressions that today are part of the structure of my profession and my life”
This first approximation was the foundation for making the decision to expand her training and education in graphic arts at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas Martín Tovar y Tovar in Barquisimeto, and then to live in Caracas to study at the Universidad Nacional Experimental de las Artes.
Rosa Canelón is an outstanding colorist, who uses a wide range of warm and cold tones, but always in contrasting combinations. Her compositions revolve around the everyday spaces of family life: chairs, pets, books, lamps, plants, clothing, curtains, brocades, any element is an excuse to organize striking compositions of vibrant colors. The series entitled The soul of things presented in the homonymous individual exhibition at the Museo de Arte Acarigua-Araure in 2005, gives us an idea of the concept that her close and intimate environment has for the artist. Although her work is figurative, the representation reveals a pictorial character of outstanding visual impressions that provokes the instinctive transformation of reality. In the Terrazas Series (2021) she links the interior spaces with the exterior landscape. The point of view is always from the inside out. Nature is speckled by an idyllic atmosphere. It’s her own garden of Eden, which envelops us in an aura of vibrant colors.
Canelón has a prominent presence in the exhibition circuit with individual, collective and biennial exhibitions, as well as winning national and international awards.
