Morela Avilán (Venezuela, 1956), currently lives and works in Miami, Florida. Between 1984 and 2005 she took courses about painting, artistic expression techniques and photography.

Avilán is a civil engineer, a profession she has shared with painting, poetry, art history, psychology and her interest in the mysticism that puts human beings in spiritual communion with “nature as an enigma”, a field in which she has been inspired to develop her visual work, as can be seen throughout her career, through her series entitled “Expresiones del signo”, “Zahorí”, “Sonata en sol”, “Chromatic capriccio”, “Solar”, “Solaris” and “Lunar”, in which she has worked on different formats: square, rectangular and round.

The artist delves into nature, vegetation, the body of the sun (although its light dazzles), and the moon, in search of its hidden energy to make it pictorially visible through color (polychrome and monochrome), texture (visual and tactile), the play of light, the interweaving of stains, in some cases, and of dots in others. Avilán goes from the macro to the micro. She observes the natural environment of her interest in such detail, so deeply, that she internalizes it and transfigures it into interior landscapes. She does not intend to represent reality objectively, to make descriptions or narratives of nature, but rather to express moods, feelings, emotions, and to arouse in the viewer aesthetic pleasure and reflexions on the hidden and invisible meaning of nature.

The artistic style of Morela Avilán moves between lyrical abstraction, impressionism and pointillism. She also combines the rational and the intuitive, the scientific and the humanistic.
