María De Las Casas is a Venezuelan very passionate about photography, her way of expression and visual communication, who resides in Santander, Spain, since 2014. She has a degree in Fine Arts, graduated from the College of Santa Fe, Santa Fe, NM , U.S. She has been doing photography for more than 30 years, an activity that she shares with teaching, in whose courses and workshops she aims to motivate her participants to observe and develop their own gaze, as she has done in her career.

For De las Casas, inspired by Eastern philosophy -Hinduism and Buddhism-, we live in transience, in a constant evolution marked by change and destruction, by the fleeting nature of life, which is why she considers narrating, to through the photographic image, a visual history that provides a permanent vision of what has become.

In her creative process, De Las Casas previously outlines her ideas, writes them; Sometimes she arranges people and sets the stage, other times, she just waits for the image to appear, takes aim and shoots. Then, her compositions will remain in time telling a story, or fragments of a fleeting story frozen by her camera. When she says, “I look forward to this story being told”, we can interpret that statement as the reading that each viewer will add to their own story; that is, his and hers.

The subject of this photographer is varied, like life itself, which she has divided into series, in color and in black and white: Entre árboles, Entre redes, Fragmentos, Luz azul, Otoño and Últimos días, which contemplate the natural landscape, the urban, the female nude fused with the landscape, interiors and family memories, in which she visually plays with composition, light, color, contrast, texture and perspective.
